LAIAGAM DISTRICT

LAKE IVAE & SIRUNKI

LAKE IVAE.png

One of the highest lakes in Papua New Guinea, Lake Ivae is the source of the Lai River, which weaves its way through Enga Province and forms the epic Sepik River.

Lake Ivae on the Sirunki plateau has been created by a large catchment basin that is part of the Lai Valley. It is home to a host of birds, fish and insects.

TASTING ENGA

Travelling to Sirunki and Lake Ivae is a 45 minute drive from Wabag. Stop and graze on local produce sold along the roadside, as you drive through the Sirunki landscape in Laiagam District, past kilometres of traditional gardens.

Strawberries grow all year round up here and are plentiful.  Visit an apiary and sample the famous Sirunki Honey.

And you can't miss the chance to enjoy a traditional mumu if you visit the nearby Lygone Salt Ponds or from the Yaskom Resort-Hotels own mumu kitchen.

VIEW! YASKOM RESORT BALCONY BAR

Yaskom Resort is the best spot to view the lake, from the perfectly positioned balcony-bar. Lake's appearance is ever-changing as the wide open sky creates stunning glassy reflections on the lake by day and shimmers at sunset.

The resort offers tours around the lake as well as treks to newly opened up remote birding watching and orchids trails.

Stay the night and enjoy what Sirunki has to offer.
